Legacy Installer ISO's for Old Hardware

Old hardware can't be supported forever, though the AstLinux Project makes an effort to support old hardware as long as practically possible.

CPU's that don't support PAE

Some old generic x86 hardware may contain a CPU that does not support PAE, notably some old, but popular HP thin clients with a Transmeta Crusoe CPU.

The AstLinux bootloader, runnix-0.4 and earlier works with non-PAE hardware, included with AstLinux 1.2.10 and earlier. AstLinux 1.3 and later default to runnix-0.5 which requires a CPU with PAE, but AstLinux 1.3 will also boot fine with runnix-0.4.

For a new installation on a legacy non-PAE board, you can “bootstrap” the process by first installing AstLinux 1.2.10 and then perform a “System Firmware Upgrade:” to a newer AstLinux image.
